Bump or swelling on gums

Why is there a bump or swelling on my gums?

A bump or swollen gums could mean you have an infection from a tooth or from the gingiva. Bleeding or pus is an indication of infection and you should have a dentist evaluate the area. If you ignore it, the infection can spread and cause other problems. Usually infection is initially treated with antibiotics and pain medication. Then depending on the severity of the infection around this tooth, a root canal and crown or extraction. The picture to the right shows a dental fistula or draining abscess out the side of the gums. Dr. Charles Newens has 18 years of performing root canals and extractions. Call his Carmichael Dental office for more information at 916-332-9240
